Examples of our projects include scholarships for college women, a biennial Beautillion/Rites of Passage Program, and the Ivy reading AKAdemy.

Pathway to Homeownership Seminar
When the concept of the Pathway to Homeownership Seminar was created, the main objective of the seminar was to provide the community with immediate and long term resources on homeownership and to encourage individuals of color to embark on the pathway towards homeownership.  The goals of the Pathway to Homeownership Seminar include dispelling myths and providing opportunities for homeownership particularly for people of color.

Local Community Based Organizations (CBO) with proven track records of success in assisting individuals with the home-buying process take part in the seminar.  Participants leave the seminar informed on topics including but not limited to the following: Knowing and Understanding your Credit, First Time Home-Buyers Club applications and Information, Affordable Housing Projects in the Community, web sites associated with homeownership and How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Predatory Lending Practices.

Delta Rho Omega’s Pathway to Homeownership Seminar falls in line with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. “AKA Keys to Homeownership” Initiative which strives to help communities of color achieve the dream of homeownership.

Beautillion 2006

Beautillion/Rites of Passage Program
The Beautillion is the culminating event of the chapters’ Rites of Passage program. The Rite of Passage, as it is known, has its origin in ancient Africa. It is a ceremonial ritual welcoming our male youth into adulthood. Each year males selected to take part would be sent to a place where elders would prepare them for manhood in a process that would last from three months to three years before they returned to their villages.

Today our preparation of initiates is less rigid and less conforming than that of their forebears. Rites of passage participants, young men and their female escorts undergo a series of workshops and participate in activities that will assist them in the transition to adulthood and prepare them for their presentation to the community at the Beautillion. Ivy Reading Akademy
Delta Rho Omega chapter actively supports the educational advancement efforts of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The Ivy Reading AKAdemy is a
tutorial program for "at-risk" students in grades 1-3. The primary goal of the Ivy Reading AKAdemy is to provide students with reading time, support and guidance that will ensure they are reading at or above grade level. Elements of this program have also been extended to the area of mathematics. If you would like to enroll a student into the program, please send an email to programs@aka-dro.org.

Pink and Green Scholarship Ball
The Pink & Green Ball, originally an annual social event, has transitioned in biennial fundraising gala, the proceeds of which help the chapter facilitate its scholarship and community service.

The 2007 Pink & Green Ball was undertaken in collaboration with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. The gala, themed Dancing with the Sorors, was patterned after the noted ABC megahit reality program with chapter members and partner dance company members participating in a dance contest and exhibition of the Tango, Rhumba and Lindy Hop. The March of Dimes – March for Babies
March for Babies is the walk that saves babies. The March of Dimes biggest fundraiser, March for Babies supports pioneering research and innovative programs that save babies born prematurely or with birth defects. Since its beginning in 1970, March for Babies has raised more than $1 billion to help give babies a fighting chance. March for Babies is the first and best walking event in the nation, taking place in 1,400 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Each year members of the Chapter either walk to raise money or man the route checkpoints to facilitate the administrative process, cheer on the walkers and distribute sponsor donated product contributions.

Doris Harris - Queens Psychiatric Center
The Doris Harris Queens & Brooklyn Psychiatric Center program caters to children with developmental difficulties who are housed at the Queens and Brooklyn Psychatric Centers. The chapter holds holiday parties and fosters group interaction. Annually, Delta Rho Omega chapter provides a Valentine's Day Dance, an Easter Egg Hunt, a Spring Fling, Halloween Jeers and Christmas time cheer. This is one of Delta Rho Omega chapters’ oldest community service projects.

Kianga House
Kianga House is a facility for unwed mothers transitioning to permanent housing. The majority of the women range in age from 15 to 21 years old and are usually pregnant or have children. Delta Rho Omega Chapter holds a series of workshops with the women in an effort to enlighten, encourage and educate the young ladies of Kianga House about issues that affect their daily lives. The workshops are facilitated under the theme G.I.R.L. power.

Gotta Have Park
An event held annually on a weekend in May, "You Gotta Have Park" brings together thousands of volunteers who work together to spruce up Prospect Park for the coming warm-weather season and ask park visitors to "donate a dollar" or more to help preserve and protect the park. Activities, which are plentiful, include art exhibits, garden planting, nature walks, ranger tours, carousel rides, pedal boating, pony rides and much more. You Gotta Have Park is Prospect Park's biggest volunteer event.
